Presented by EsplanadeMoonfest – A Mid Autumn Celebration marks the occasion by bringing families and friends together to enjoy an array of Chinese traditional arts by outstanding artists. Into its 10th edition, the festival runs from 5 to 8 September 2014 and seeks to keep Chinese traditions alive, connecting diverse communities through the arts as families and friends gather to celebrate the second most important festival for the Chinese community after the Lunar New Year. The festival’s wide range of programmes cater to everyone in the family and are also very child-friendly.

I brought Asher to participate in some of the free public activities yesterday, including a lantern walkabout and a cantonese opera performance.

Asher was pleasantly amused by the silt walkers and the dragon dance troupe during the lantern walkabout, drawn by the bright lights and garish costumes:

He was introduced to the world of cantonese opera as the show narrator explained some of the symbolic movements and gestures. For instance, props like hair whips are used to symbolise horse riding while an oar symbolise the rowing of a boat:

At the concourse on level 2, there is a photo area where you can get free instant print-outs of your instagram images. Simply take a picture and share it with #moonfestsg and follow @moonfestsg on instagram. Proceed to the print-out counter, identify your picture and you can get a nice little free print-out like this one:
